Increased need for speed and agility drives growing interest in strategy-execution software
NEW YORK, NY (November 29, 2018) — For the second consecutive year, Gartner has named PDWare among its representative strategy-execution vendors in its 2018 Market Guide for Strategy Execution Management Software (1).
Gartner states that the representative vendors on their Strategy Execution Management (SEM) list “strive to articulate a value proposition focused clearly on capturing strategic intent and goals, and aligning those elements to courses of action and change initiatives to ensure strategy-to-execution alignment.”
Gartner’s SEM report specifically cites resource capacity planning as a required component of strategy execution, noting, “The ability to work out essentially how many and what types of people are needed to get work done is critical to ensuring that the strategic plans agreed to by the enterprise are actually doable.”
PDWare made waves in 2001 when they hit the market with a resource-centric Excel-based solution, and have since introduced their flagship cloud solution, ResourceFirst, which breaks new ground in its support of a combined resource forecast across agile, traditional, and sustaining activities.
“A key objective for ResourceFirst,” says PDWare CEO Peter Heinrich, “is to bridge the gap between business strategy and execution, but with a special emphasis on resource capacity planning. Because when you think about it, if you don’t have the right people available at the right time to do the work, it doesn’t matter what your strategy is or how well your project methodology is designed. It’s why we’ve claimed from day one that resource planning is central to strategy execution management success, so we’re delighted to see it emphasized in Gartner’s report.”
While strategic planning and project portfolio management aren’t new concepts, dynamic changes in business are requiring new ways of working beyond just tracking projects and mapping them to strategies. Enter SEM, which emphasizes strategy definition and alignment of a variety of investment types to strategic objectives, and ensures that resource alignment and execution metrics support business agility and multiple work methods.
As Gartner says in its report, “Digitalization, with its requirements of increasing delivery, speed and agility, is what is driving the emerging SEM software market. If the previous management processes around getting things done are falling into disrepute, then so are the tools that have supported them.”
With its focus on seamless resource planning across agile, traditional, and sustaining work, as well as its strategy execution dashboards that span all of the above, PDWare believes it has cracked this code. “We believe this recognition by Gartner and their emphasis on SEM validates the direction we’re taking with our product,” says Heinrich.
